Yuan Yuan is an artist born in Weihai, a coastal city in China, working across sculpture, installation, painting and computational processes. She studied Painting at Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London, before completing an MA in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art and an MA in Computational Arts at Goldsmiths, University of London.
Her practice explores how a sense of place, memory and belonging can be constructed through objects, images and spatial arrangements. She is interested in how familiar colours, forms and structures can evoke recognition — the feeling of having encountered something before, even when its origin remains uncertain.
Recurring geometric forms, colours, symbols and rules move between her works, forming an evolving visual system. Rather than carrying fixed meanings, these elements are rearranged, repeated and translated across different materials, scales and environments. Through this process, individual forms become part of larger structures and imagined spaces.
Her works often occupy an ambiguous territory between sculpture, furniture, architecture and play. By shifting the scale, function and context of familiar forms, Yuan creates objects and environments that feel simultaneously recognisable and displaced.
